Dear John, (John "Ratty" Rowland)
I am a colleague of John O'Hara at Leeds Metropolitan University. I am contacting you because you have previously taken part in research studies for John's PhD and I am currently recruiting subjects for a similar study that I am conducting. The protocol is almost identical to John's study with one VO2max test and four subsequent trials with a 2 hour steady state ride followed by a performance test.
The study investigates the influence of caffeine ingestion on carbohydrate oxidation during exercise and I have enclosed a copy of the information document for you to read. If you are interested I can be contacted on either of the numbers below or by return e-mail.
Kind Regards, hope the cycling is going well

Personal Testing
From: Paul, Darren D.Paul@tees.ac.uk
You will not know me, my name is Darren Paul and I currently work for the University of Teesside. I am the supervisor for
our new Sport Science Consultancy service. What this service provides is the most upto date scientific support for athletes within the region that would like a cutting edge to their performance. This
ranges from physiology testing (v02max) to biomechanical testing. I am contacting you to see if their would be any interest from yourselves or from any one that you might know. Obviously it would be better to discuss this in person or on the phone. You can contact me on 07743448298,

Subject: Physiological Testing Leeds Metropolitan University
I have been passed your contact details as you may be interested in taking part in a study we are carrying out at Leeds Metropolitan University.
If you decide to take part in the study you will need to attend the lab at Leeds Met 4 times in total. Your first visit will be to carry out a VO2max cycle test and then the following 3 visits will be the experimental trials where a different test drink will be tested each time. Each experimental trial will take place approx. 1 week apart from each other and will require you to cycle at 65-75% VO2max for 45 minutes followed by 6* 1 minute maximal sprints followed by a further 45 minute cycle at 65-75% VO2max. You will then be required to consume some of the test drink every 30 minutes during a 4 hour recovery period. Following the recovery period you will then perform a cycle to fatigue at 85% VO2max.
You will required to avoid stenuous activity for the 24 hours prior to the test and for the 24 hours after the test therefore you should consider whether this will affect your training before you decide to take part. The nature of the tests are very strenuous and therefore it essential that you ensure you fully recover between each test and this may mean you are unable to do some training sessions. However the tests will provide you with information on your level of fitness and may give you an idea of the best types of recovery drinks for you to take.
Let me know if you are still interested and I can forward you more information and then we can organise getting you booked in.
Thanks
