After the two successful “spin-offs” of the Quelle Challenge Roth in Wanaka/New Zealand and Niederbronn-Les-Bains/France (where the premiere of the new half-distance competition will take place on May 25) TEAMChallenge GmbH has now granted two further licences for events in Spain. On May 10, 2009 the Evolution Challenge Costa Barcelona Maresme half-distance triathlon will take place for the first time in the Barcelona region at the beautiful Costa del Maresme. On October 4, 2009 there will be a long-distance triathlon on the same race course, the Challenge Costa Barcelona Maresme.

With the IM distance being in October this means that accomodation will be cheaper as out of holiday season and I have checked flights with www.jet2.co.uk with the date this year (can't look into next year yet) and they range from £75- £100

The appealling thing for me is the event is on flat roads following the Med and the temperature will still be a reasonable 20+ degrees at that time of year also it allows IM distance training throughout our 'summer months' and not in the cold miserable winter.
